CIMIC OPERATORS AWARDED BY THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF BENADIR REGION
The Deputy Mayor of Mogadishu and Director of the Benadir Regional Administration, Mrs. Basma Omar Ahmed, has met with personnel of the EUTM-S CIMIC Team. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss projects currently under development by the Italian CIMIC team and took place in Mogadishu City Hall, the historic residence of the Italian Governor in Mogadishu in the 1930s, recently renovated following the devastation suffered during the years of the civil war. Adding impetuous to meeting was the recent heavy rainfall experienced in Somalia, which has caused localised flooding in both the capital and throughout the country and has proven to be particular problematic. Of particular note has been the havoc that the flooding has caused on the roads throughout the Mogadishu making some areas impassable. Issues raised during the meeting was the support for emergency services, the development of projects assisting vulnerable groups, with particular attention given to women. The provision of security was also discussed with focus on both current levels and those anticipated during the forthcoming federal elections. On conclusion of the meeting the Deputy Mayor expressed his gratitude by presenting a certificate of appreciation to Lieutenant Colonel Matteo Mineo and his personnel demonstrating the fundamental support that has linked the city of Mogadishu to the Italian contingent for many years.
