FRAMEWORK NATION CONCEPT DELEGATION AT MNCG

The intensification of international relations is the focus of future goals

Motta di Livenza, September 30th, 2021
On 30 September 2021, a Framework Nation Concept delegation (ITA-FNC), accompanied by officers of the Italian Defense General Staff and the British liaison officer at Italian Army General Staff, visited the Mario Fiore Barracks in Motta di Livenza, Multinational CIMIC Group (MCNG) headquarters.
The Framework Nation Concept is one of the main pillars on which multinational cooperation within the Atlantic Alliance leverages.
Launched by NATO in 2014, the ITA-FNC initiative aims to promote cooperation between European countries, through the will of groups of nations to establish a common working platform that allows improving current military capabilities and developing new ones.
Starting from common needs and objectives, the purpose of the ITA-FNC is to increase cooperation, interoperability of forces, the establishment of multinational formations, the operational contribution and, where possible, lay the foundations for a potential shared capacity development.
After the welcome greetings, the MNCG Deputy Commander, Lt. Col. Francesco Paolo Grasso accompanied the delegation to the meeting room where, in the presence of the international staff, the MNCG Commander, Colonel Mattia Zuzzi, remotely from the JFCNP for a training session of the NRF (NATO Response Force) assets’ Commanders, illustrated a briefing on the multiple activities of the Unit within NATO and in international missions. At the end of the briefing, the delegation was able to visit the infrastructure and meet the personnel specialized in civil-military cooperation. The visit was aimed at illustrating the capabilities and peculiarities of the entity within the Atlantic Alliance for the CIMIC operational function. In fact, just a few days before the visit, on 28 September, the Coordinating Committee, the multinational representative body that sanctions the operating proposals and programmatic lines relating to the MNCG, met in Rome. At this meeting, the six Participating Nations’ representatives expressed their will to broaden the basin of nations that constitute the unit, given the increasingly lively interest of international stakeholders. The Multinational CIMIC Group actually includes in its staff joint personnel from Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia.
